A Special Day For The Class Of 2022
Graduation Ceremony 2022
23 September 2022 was an important day for 122 student-athletes who will complete their Secondary education or International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) this year. After two years of restricted celebrations, the graduating student-athletes could celebrate the milestone in-person at the Auditorium with those who have been instrumental in their journey – their peers, staff and loved ones – during the Graduation Ceremony that was organised for the Class of 2022.
As student-athletes donned the school blazers and walked down the aisle with their classmates to take a bow in front of the audience, a sense of pride and joy filled the Auditorium. For student-athletes, the walk down the aisle was akin to walking down memory lane as they reflected on how far they have come since they joined the School.
This year’s Graduation Ceremony was graced by sprint queen and alumna, Veronica Shanti Pereira. She delivered an inspiring speech sharing her journey and struggles to overcome the odds of becoming one of Singapore’s most celebrated athletes. She ended her speech with excellent advice to student-athletes: “When I think back to my time here, I remember it as a pivotal time in my life, where I was on a journey to discover who I was, with friends that I have made for life, under the love and care of the staff I can now call my friends, and number one supporters. As you embark on the next chapter of your life, take all the lessons learnt in these school halls, and busk in the memories created here - because they will turn into memories of a lifetime, never ever to be forgotten.”
During Principal Ong Kim Soon’s speech, he also acknowledged Shanti’s determination to overcome challenges to create record-breaking feats in recent times at the SEA Games and Commonwealth Games. He urged student-athletes to have the same strive and perseverance to overcome the odds, never give up and be champions in sport, for sport and in life. He also emphasised the importance of being grateful to those who have played a part in their journey. In his speech, Mr Ong also acknowledged the struggles the graduating batch had to go through during the pandemic, which has prepared them more to become diamonds in their lives.
The Valedictorians for the Class of 2022 – Kassandra Ong Xue Ling (Wushu) for the Secondary cohort and Sabrina Lee Jingyi (Badminton) for the IBDP batch – delivered heart-warming speeches that resonated well with their peers.
The Ceremony also had montages that took them on a walk down memory lane. Student-athletes enjoyed looking back at unforgettable and memorable times, especially during their early days as Secondary 1 student-athletes. The Ceremony reached its climax with a surprise song performance from staff which got student-athletes in arms and swaying to the music.
Congratulations to the Class of 2022 for the closing of one chapter in their lives, and to their parents and staff for their unwavering support!
