5 Boys And 5 Girls Recognised As The Best

2022 Singapore Schools Sports Council Best Sportsboy and Sportsgirl Award

10 student-athletes from Singapore Sports School received the Singapore Schools Sports Council (SSSC) Best Sportsboy Award and SSSC Best Sportsgirl Award. It is the pinnacle award that was presented at the SSSC 52nd Colours Award Presentation and 2022 National School Games Closing Ceremony held on 23 September 2022. Netball player, Charmaine Soh, who was the Guest-of-Honour at the Ceremony, presented the Awards.

The 10 student-athletes recognised for their sporting achievements were gymnast Asher Pua and paddlers Izaac Quek Yong and Ser Lin Qian (all Secondary 4), footballer Raoul Suhaimi (Secondary 5), golfer Jaymie Ng Wan Xin, Wushu exponent Jolie Goh (both IBDP Year 5), shooter Kevyn Loh Zheng Lin (IBDP Year 6), fencer Joel Chiu Ka Jyn, shooter Shirlene Hew Yun Ting and water polo player Michelle Tan Ting Yee (all extended IBDP).

“This year has been momentous and challenging for me, as I had to balance my academic studies and training for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA). I was glad that I managed to reach my goal of representing Singapore at the SEA Games in May this year, and won a team gold medal. I am honoured that my sporting achievement is being recognised, and I am thankful to be presented with this Award. I am motivated to train harder and do well in more international tournaments in the near future,” shared Joel, who is a second-time recipient of the SSSC Best Sportsboy Award.

For Shirlene, a final-year IBDP student-athlete, the Award is a perfect graduation gift for her.

“I am extremely thankful for receiving this Award. I am very grateful to my coaches and teammates. The past two years have not been easy, and this Award has shown how it is very important to have a strong support system to keep us going in our sporting journey. The Award is a summation of the experiences and achievements that I have gained in the past 8 years as a student-athlete, and has spurred me on to do better and perform well on an international level,” said Shirlene who is a four-time recipient of the SSSC Best Sportsgirl Award.
