Future-Proofing Our Student-Athletes’ Careers

Education & Career Guidance Webinar

On 6 October 2022, student-athletes from the Secondary 3 to post-secondary levels had the opportunity to learn about various career pathways beyond sports through a webinar sharing by industry professionals. They include alumni Sean Lee, Dr Nicholas Yong, Vanessa Teo, Kerstin Ong, and professionals Justin Mo, Jasmin Loh, Shanon Seet, Chia Ying Lee and Phua Sim Mei, who shared about their job roles in sectors such as Business Entrepreneurship, Medicine, Law, Marketing and Social Media Influencing, Psychology, Finance, Computer Science and Stem Engineering.

The webinar session is organised annually as part of the School’s Education & Career Guidance programme to allow student-athletes to gain better awareness about the evolving world of work and various emerging professions. It was put together based on student-athletes’ interests and emerging job roles.

Besides being inspired by various career opportunities available for them, student-athletes also had the chance to interact with industry professionals and gained useful insights to help them make informed decisions on their educational pathways and career choices.

“I attended the sharing about Law by Track and Field alumna Vanessa Teo, currently a Legal Counsel at Openspace Ventures. The sharing was really informative as she shared about her career journey in the Law industry, including her experience in Law School, and how she had chosen a specialisation in the field of Law,” shared Year 5 IBDP bowler Victoria Annabelle Huang.

Fellow batchmate Jade Ooi also found the session helpful in broadening her horizon in the Finance industry. She said: “The speaker, Jasmin Loh, provided us with a very detailed sharing of her job experience as a Financial Consultant representing Finexis Advisory. She was really friendly, and gave us some good advice on working in the finance sector.”
