Milestone Unlocked With Special Celebrations

Graduation Ceremony 2020

On 25 September 2020, Singapore Sports School celebrated the graduation of 89 student-athletes from Secondary 4 and 5, and 22 student-athletes from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). While keeping to various safe management measures, the graduating batch had a unique close-knitted and intimate celebration in the classrooms where they walked down memory lane and heard good advice through messages through video by staff, Guest-of-Honour, Ms Janice Yun, Valedictorians, Sabrina Lee Jingyi (Secondary) and Nicholas Rachmadi (IBDP), and the President of Students’ Council, Irsyad Mohammad Said.

Principal Ong Kim Soon congratulated the special cohort who overcame the challenges of COVID-19 to complete this milestone in their life. In his speech, he encouraged the Class of 2020 to take on life challenges confidently. “I hope the 4 to 8 years you have spent here have equipped you to be more ready for any life challenges. Life challenges are just like sports competitions – you can train and be prepared for them; you can overcome them; and even when you don’t, you can reflect and come back stronger from that experience. They can’t beat you down. I hope you have grown to be a fighter, to take on each challenge confidently,” shared Mr Ong. He also reminded them to be grateful to people who loved and cared for them in their journey and urged them to continue to think of the community and seek to give back where they can while achieving even greater heights in life.

Guest-of-Honour, Janice Yun, Board Member and alumna from the pioneer batch of the Sports School student-athletes, was also present at the celebrations. She announced the formation of the Singapore Sports School Alumni Association which will bring alumni together to share their diverse experiences and support each other. An official Education and Career Guidance Centre will also be set up to prepare student-athletes for their next stage in life.

The ceremony ended with a class photograph taken using Zoom and a special lunch at The Arena. A creative graduation-themed virtual gift pack, consisting of an Instagram filter, virtual background, Facebook profile picture frame, GIF stickers, and Instagram quizzes, was also made available for student-athletes to capture their unique graduation moments online.

Congratulations, Class of 2020!
