Wushu Exponents Fight For Gold

Singapore National Wushu and Sanda Championship 2022

More than 1,680 Wushu exponents were eager to show off their skills in 334 events at the Singapore National Wushu and Sanda Championships 2022 held from 13 to 22 November. Among them were 7 past and present student-athletes who won a whopping 17 medals (14 gold and 3 silver).

Nessya Koh Li Yun (Secondary 1), the youngest member of the Sports School team, stood out from the crowd amongst 29 others in the 1st International Changquan event. Her confident and skillful execution of moves won her the gold medal in the event. Nessya, an alumna of Raffles Girls’ Primary School, also went on to clinch two more gold medals in the 1st International Daoshu and Gunshu event.

Not to be outdone by their junior, IBDP Year 5 student-athletes Jolie Goh, Teo Yiru and Zeanne Law Zhi Ning punched above their weight to claim 11 medals. Zeanne contributed to almost half of the medals won by the three girls, taking home 4 gold and 1 silver in the Taijijian, Taijiquan and Taijishan events, while both Jolie and Yiru each won 3 medals (2 gold and 1 silver) in their events.

The sibling pair Kassandra Ong Xue Ling (Secondary 4) and Kimberly Ong Li Ling (alumna) also did well in the Changquan event. Both claimed the gold medal in the 3rd International and Optional Changquan event respectively.

Meanwhile, Angus Quek Ngee Herng (Diploma in Business, Year 2), the only male Wushu exponent who participated in this competition, did just as well. He took home a silver medal in the Optional Daoshu event.
