Singapore’s No. 1 foilist Amita Marie Nicolette Berthier added 2 more points towards her Tokyo 2020 qualification when she finished joint-third in the 2019 Sabadell Satellite World Cup Women’s Foil in Barcelona, Spain, on 26 October 2019. This was the former Singapore Sports School fencer’s second FIE Satellite medal of the 2019/2020 Season which started in September 2019. Her gold at the Copenhagen Satellite tournament at the start of the October was also her first win in the Senior category and kicked off her Tokyo 2020 campaign.

Amita advanced through the pools and direct elimination rounds with relative ease, defeating several older opponents to secure her semi-final spot. Unfortunately, her encounter with Italian Olga Rachele Calissi ended in a 9-15 defeat to give her the bronze medal.

The 18-year-old Singaporean continued her strong performance the next day at the 2019 Sabadell International Open U23 held in conjunction with the FIE Satellite event to capture the runner-up title. She lost narrowly to 22-year-old Minami Kano of Japan in the Final which ended at 14-15.
