Taekwondo Champs Showed Power Kicks At NSG
National School Games Taekwondo Championships – ‘B’ and ‘C’ Division
Our student-athletes proved that dedication, resilience, and versatility go hand in hand at the 2025 National School Games (NSG) ‘B’ and ‘C’ Division Taekwondo Championships. Rising to the challenge at the competition held on 8 and 9 May 2025, they brought home a gold and bronze in the ‘B’ Division, along with a hard-fought silver in the ‘C’ Division.
Tuah Iskandar Junaidi, who also excels in Pencak Silat, demonstrated his adaptability by punching his way to the top of the podium in the ‘B’ Division Boys’ Red Individual event. Outperforming 25 other competitors, he emerged victorious and clinched the gold medal.
“This wasn’t my first time competing in the sport. I’ve been involved through both school and my club, Akira X. Over the years, I’ve gained valuable experience from various competitions, which really helped me prepare mentally and physically for this event,” shared the Secondary 3 student-athlete.
To gear up for the competition, Tuah followed a consistent training routine under the guidance of his coaches, focusing on refining his techniques, building endurance, and maintaining discipline throughout the preparation period.
He added, “One of the biggest challenges was balancing everything. In addition to preparing for the competition, I had to manage my examinations and stay committed to my regular Pencak Silat practices. It was tough juggling all of it, especially with limited time and energy. But I stayed organised, managed my time wisely, and kept reminding myself of my goals. Facing strong opponents also pushed me to stay focused and give my all in each match.”
Winning gold at the National School Games was a moment of triumph for Tuah. “It felt incredibly rewarding to see all the hard work pay off. I’m proud of my achievement and grateful to my coaches, teammates, and supporters who believed in me. This experience has inspired me to continue improving and aim even higher,” he shared.
In the same division, Gwen Koh En Qi took to the mat with power and poise, earning a bronze medal in the Girls’ Poom/Black 3 Individual event. Not to be outdone, multi-sport student-athlete Zaccheus Ker Jun Kai also took on the challenge of participating in the Taekwondo NSG. The Secondary 2 student-athlete showed sharp focus and strong form to secure a silver medal in the ‘C’ Division Boys’ Poom Black Individual event.
