Towards A Better Athlete-Friendly Polytechnic Experience With Ngee Ann Polytechnic

Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony with Ngee Ann Polytechnic

Being full-time student-athletes is a delicate act of splitting time and commitment between hectic training schedules and academic pursuits. Alumna Fernel Tan Qian Ni, who recently graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) with a Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) can attest to that.

Fernel, a national shooter, dedicates herself to her training and often finds herself away for competitions locally and overseas. She is glad that the diploma programme on with NP allowed her to work pockets of time around her training schedule to study and complete her school projects. She also credited the lecturers who supported and guided her throughout her 3-year journey with NP – making time for her to catch up on her lessons and answering any doubts she had along the way.

Fernel was joined by other DBS alumni and current student-athletes in a meaningful dialogue with NP Principal Mr Lim Kok Kiang and his staff on 13 May 2022. Mr Lim and his staff engaged the student-athletes to understand their polytechnic experiences and received their feedback on how to make the diploma programme even better for current and future student-athletes.

Mr Lim was then joined by Principal Mr Ong Kim Soon from Singapore Sports School to pledge their commitment to the programme by renewing the Memorandum of Understanding between both schools.

The partnership between NP and Sports School first started in 2016, with the first intake of Diploma in Business Studies student-athletes in 2017, and its first batch of graduates in 2020.
