Shuttlers On Medal Hunt

Brave Sword Badminton Series 2023 (March), Papago Badminton Carnival 2023, ORLEN Polish Open 2023

Our past and present shuttlers had a stunning run in both local and overseas tournaments. Locally, they competed against a strong pool of opponents to capture a whopping 30 medals at two local Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) sanctioned tournaments. Our alumni also impressed their international opponents to win 3 medals in the ORLEN Polish Open 2023.

Brave Sword Badminton Series 2023 (March)

Their campaign began at the Brave Sword Badminton Series 2023 (March), a SBA Tier 4 sanctioned tournament. Over the competitions held from 1 to 5 March 2023 at the Suntec Convention Centre, our shuttlers clinched a total of 15 medals (3 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze). Andrea Jacqui Tay registered her maiden title win in the Women’s Singles Open category. The Diploma in Business Studies Year 1 student-athlete defeated her junior Aaliyah Zakaria in the semi-finals and made it an uphill battle for her opponent in the finals where she took home the Singles title with 21-18, 21-15.

The Under-17s also did extremely well to clinch a 1-2-3 finish in the Boys' Singles and Doubles events. Justin Tay Ron Hsien was crowned the Under-17 Boys’ Singles Champion, while Marco Boon Jie Le and Ng Ming Zhe topped the Doubles event.

Papago Badminton Carnival 2023

The shuttlers continued their fine form at the Papago Badminton Carnival 2023, a SBA tier 2 tournament. Over the nine-day competition held on home ground from 11 to 19 March, our shuttlers clinched a total of 15 medals (4 gold, 6 silver, 5 bronze). Secondary 2 student-athlete Sophie Aleena Likwan shone on the court as she won 2 titles in the Under-15 Girls’ Singles and Doubles event with batchmate Loh Ying Fang.

The Under-17 boys experienced a déjà vu in their events as they emulated their success to clinch both the Singles and Doubles titles again. Justin was crowned the Singles champion, while Marco Boon and Ng Ming Zhe won the Doubles title.

At the competition held in Poland from 24 to 27 March, alumnae Yeo Jia Min and Crystal Wong Jia Ying took the title for Women's Singles and Women's Doubles events respectively. Alumnus Loh Kean Hean also had a podium finish with a joint-third in the Men's Doubles event.
