Pencak Silat Exponents Dazzle In Sarawak

Sarawak Premier International Silat Championship 2023


Singapore Sports School’s Pencak Silat exponents had an explosive outing at the inaugural Sarawak Premier International Silat Championship 2023, held from 27 February to 5 March in Kuching, Sarawak. They contributed significantly to Team Singapore’s medal haul by winning 5 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. Team Singapore won 10 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze medals, finishing behind Malaysia and Sarawak as the second runner-up in the championship.

The gold medallists are current student-athletes, Rifqah Mursyidah Mistam, Siti Khadijah Mohamad Sahrem – Senior Female Class E(65-70kg), Muhammad Naufal Abdullah, Mirza Sahrin, and alumnus Sheik Ferdous Sheik Alau’ddin.

Secondary 4 Pencak Silat exponent Rifqah Mursyidah Mistam shared, “I went up against an opponent from Terangannu and won 35-14. I felt very proud to be able to run around the Arena, raising the flag up high.”

The seven-day championship involved some 800 national and international athletes and officials. Besides Singapore, the other foreign participants were Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, United States of America, the Netherlands, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
