Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Tri-Nations Series 2022

Singapore played Malaysia and the Philippines in Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Tri-Nations Series 2022 on 26 March and 29 March 2022. The Lions had a successful outing on home ground, winning with two goals in both games.

Past student-athlete and striker Ikhsan Fandi’s double goals gave Singapore a 2-1 win against Malaysia, and the confidence to take on the Filipinos in the next match, which they comfortably won 2-0. The first goal scored at the game against the Philippines was also courtesy of a past student-athlete, Muhammad Safuwan Baharuddin.

Nine footballers out of the 26-player national team are past and present student-athletes of Sports School. The 8 past student-athletes are Adam Swandi, Muhammad Amirul Adli, Muhammad Hami Syahin Said, Muhammad Safuwan Baharuddin, Muhammad Syazwan Buhari, Nur Muhammad Shah Shahiran, Ikhsan Fandi and Irfan Fandi, and the current student-athlete is Muhammad Ryaan Sanizal (Extended Diploma in Sport Management).

Muhammad Ryaan Sanizal, an extended Diploma in Sport Management student-athlete, who has represented Singapore at Under-15 to Under-23 level, said in a media statement: “It is every kid’s dream to be playing for the senior team and while the call-up comes as a surprise, I have been putting in plenty of effort at club level and it is a reward for me. This will also motivate me further to keep my head down and work even harder. I am looking forward to joining the team and going in to give my best, learn from the rest and show what I can do.”
