Paddlers Harvest Medals During School Holidays
WTT Youth Contender Havirov 2024, Czech Republic, STTA-Toa Payoh West-Thomson CSN Youth Table Tennis Championships 2024, Singapore Junior and Hopes Invitational Table Tennis Tournament
June was an exhilarating month for our paddlers who competed in both local and international tournaments. Nicholas Tan set the tone at WTT Youth Contender Havirov 2024 in Czech Republic from 22 May to 2 June 2024. The Secondary 5 student-athlete triumphed in the Under-17 Boys’ Singles Round of 64 with a decisive 3-0 victory over Czech opponent Martin Vaigl, followed by a 3-2 win in the Round of 32 against another Czech opponent. Nicholas continued his winning streak by defeating two Chinese opponents to reach the semi-finals, where he secured a joint bronze medal.
Back home, our paddlers continued their success at the STTA-Toa Payoh West-Thomson CSN Youth Table Tennis Championships 2024 from 6 to 9 June capturing 8 medals (2 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze). Janelle Chiang Rui En claimed the Singles title in the 15 & Under category for girls, while Tristen Yee Rui Bin secured 2nd place among the boys. In the 19 & Under Singles event, the boys swept the medals with Jaryl Wong Yi Zhong earning gold, Yang Ze Yi taking second, and Ellsworth Le and Koh Junhao sharing bronze. Rhiannon Tey Yu Qian also showcased a stellar performance, securing a silver medal among the girls.
At the Singapore Junior and Hopes Invitational Table Tennis Tournament held from 11 to 15, our paddlers added 4 more medals (2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze). Rising star Loy Ming Ying claimed first place in the Under-19 Girls’ Singles, while Nicholas Tan, Ellsworth Le, and Yang Ze Yi teamed up to win gold in the Under-19 Boys’ Team event.
