Unleashing Gravity-Defying Feats

Singapore Gymnastics Open, Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Junior Championships


Our rhythmic and artistic gymnasts did us proud at the Singapore Gymnastics Open Championships held from 25 May to 4 June 2023, where they amassed an outstanding 20 medals.

In the Rhythmic Gymnastics junior category, our student-athletes won an impressive 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. Thea Chew was the star of the show, winning gold medals in Hoop and Team (with teammate Faith Hong Haye) along with a bronze medal in Individual All-Around. Her teammate Leia Yap also put up a respectable performance with 2 silvers and 1 bronze medal in Ribbon, Team, and Hoop events respectively.

In the Senior category, our student-athletes managed to secure 1 gold medal and 2 bronze medals. Thea’s sister, Cleo Chew, scored a gold medal after putting up a wonderful performance in the team event. Amelyn Sng Hui-En, Claire Ng Xin Xuan, Lim Jia Min and Karyna Malysheva also stood on the podium for coming in 3rd in the team event.

Our student-athletes popped off in Artistic Gymnastics, tallying 4 golds, 5 silvers and 2 bronze medals. Jovi Loh Jia Le single-handedly secured 3 of the gold medals in Individual All-Around, Floor and Rings events respectively. Finishing right behind Jovi in Individual All-Around was Nathanael Pek Sek Kai, with a 1st in Parallel Bars and 2nd in Individual All-Around, Pommel Horse, Rings and High Bar events. Jovi and Nathanael then teamed up with Asher Pua and Xavier Pang Sheng Wei to bag the bronze medal in the Team event.

All in all, our gymnasts won an impressive 7 golds, 7 silvers, 6 bronzes in the Singapore Gymnastics Open Championships.

Our gymnasts continued to do well at the 16th Junior and 10th Senior Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships 2023, with Asher and Jovi making their debut in the junior category and Kho Tong-Yu and alumnus Kaeson Lim fielded in the senior category. Asher and Jovi were apparatus finalists amongst powerhouses China, Japan and Korea, an outstanding result for Team Singapore.
