Gymnasts Landed On Medals
Singapore Gymnastics Open Championships
Singapore Sports School’s gymnasts put up a fine showing amongst international friends at the Singapore Gymnastics Open Championships held from 27 May to 5 June 2022. This was the first time that spectators were welcomed at a gymnastics event in almost three years.
In Artistic Gymnastics, Sports School scored well on the first day of competition to claim the Individual All-Around gold and silver through the efforts of Jovi Loh Jia Le (Secondary 2) and Asher Pua (Secondary 4).
On the second day where apparatus finals medals were up for grabs, Xavier Pang Sheng Wei (Secondary 1) regrouped from day 1 to claim 2 golds in the Floor Exercise and High Bar, and a silver in the Pommel Horse. In the Senior category, Mohammad Mikhail Haziq Mohammad Ghazali (Extended DSPM) shook off the weariness from SEA Games to claim the Pommel Horse and High Bar gold medals. In the Stage 3 competition, Jayden Han Rong Jun (Secondary 1) contributed a silver and bronze in Rings and Vault respectively.
In Rhythmic Gymnastics, our gymnasts put their best foot forward. Despite the absence of medals, the team featured in two out of four apparatus finals in both the Junior and Senior categories. Sophia Ho Jin Wen (Secondary 4) was placed 6th in the All-Around, and in the 48-strong field of elite juniors, Amelyn Sng Hui-En (Secondary 3) pushed through to 6th place in the Individual All-Around.
