Singapore Sports School alumnus and national table tennis player Isabelle Li Siyun was presented the Republic Polytechnic Board of Governors Award for the Most Outstanding Graduate of the Year during RP’s Graduation and Awards Presentation Ceremony on 19 May 2014. She also received the Singapore Sports Council Gold Medal Award.

She received her awards from Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Second Minister for Ministry of Communications and Information, who singled her out in his speech.

“Isabelle enters each competition and training session with the focus of becoming a better player, and takes every experience as a learning opportunity. She once said in an interview, ‘I think I have nothing to lose even in the face of failure because there is always something to learn and each failure will set me up for greater success.’ That’s a mindset that all of us can learn from. It’s always better to try and fail, than to fail to try. We will inevitably make mistakes. But we learn from them and move on,” said Mr Wong.

Isabelle is among the 21 Sports School alumni in the pioneer batch of graduands from the Republic Polytechnic-Singapore Sports School Diploma in Sports and Leisure Management customised programme for elite student-athletes. She will be graduating with a Grade Point Average of 3.98 out of a maximum 4.0. She is also the selected Valedictory Speaker for RP’s School of Sports, Health & Leisure Graduation Ceremony, which will be held on 23 May 2014.
