Top Sporting Talents Awarded SOF – Peter Lim Scholarship
Singapore Olympic Foundation – Peter Lim Scholarship 2023
61 student-athletes from Singapore Sports School received the Singapore Olympic Foundation – Peter Lim Scholarship on 10 July 2023 at Temasek Polytechnic. They were among 478 student-athletes from 154 schools across 37 sports. The payout of $1.25 million this year is the largest payout thus far.
The SOF-Peter Lim scholarship helps young deserving sports talents from financially challenged backgrounds to achieve their sporting goals and supports young high-performing athletes under 18 years old to pursue sporting excellence in their chosen fields.
Out of 99 student-athletes who received the High Performance Under-18 award, 34 of them were from Sports School. These student-athletes have performed commendably in regional and international competitions.
Receiving the High Performance Under-18 award for the fourth time was Artistic Swimmer and Year 6 IBDP student-athlete Eleanor Quah Yu Wei. “I am grateful and delighted to receive the award as this scholarship does make an impact on my sporting career. I use the monetary award to buy training equipment such as swimsuits and goggles, which can be pricey at times. I also use it to offset my transportation costs, since I do not train in Sports School,” said Eleanor.
Olympian and Sports School alumnus Loh Kean Yew was also present during the event as he shared tips on balancing life as a student-athlete and gave words of motivation and affirmation to the captivated audience.
On his social media account, Guest-of-Honour Minister Edwin Tong shared, “The Government works closely with the sport fraternity to nurture and develop young talents, and dedicates significant resources to provide quality sporting infrastructures. We also provide a continuum of schemes to support athletes at different life stages, helping them maximise their fullest potential while continuing their other pursuits such as studies and work.
Corporates, philanthropists and individuals can also give a boost to our athletes’ sporting journey with sponsorships, scholarships and direct monetary support to One Team Singapore Fund which contributes to the development of Team Singapore athletes.
A big thank you to Peter for his continuous support of our young athletes. Let us all work together to support our athletes on their sporting journey!”
Congratulations to all the recipients!
