40 student-athletes from the Diploma in Business Studies course, a joint diploma programme offered with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), received recognition for their achievements in sports during the annual Student Excellence Awards Ceremony.

Seven of them were presented awards in the Outstanding Awards categories. Fencer Matthew James Lim Quan Rong was honoured as the sole recipient of the individual Outstanding Sports Award. He was recognised for representing Singapore in the 31st SEA Games and being part of the gold medal-winning team for Men’s Foil. Despite juggling sports and studies, Matthew also takes time to give back to the community by coaching in his former fencing club, and occasionally helping as a teacher in Rosebrook Development Centre where he nurtures children from various backgrounds.

On receiving the award, Matthew who is currently serving his national service, shared, “I feel proud to have been awarded the Outstanding Sports Award. This award is not the result of my efforts alone. I had a good team around me who constantly encouraged me and poured their effort into helping me succeed. Sports School also provided me with all the necessary training, coaching and competition experience that I needed.”

The recipients for the Outstanding Sports Team awards are bowlers Jerlyn Lim Si Ting and Shirlene Wong Xue Lin, and shuttlers Johann Prajogo, Basile Koh Meng Jin, Elsa Lai Yi Ting, Lim Ming Hong, Lim Shun Tian, Megan Lee Xinyi and Ryan Tan Rui Yang.
