On Track On The Track

Singapore National Track & Field Championships 2022

At the Singapore National Track & Field Championships 2022 on 22 January 2022, Alumnus Chong Wei Guan had a breakthrough after clocking 14:30s for 110m hurdles, setting a new U23 national record. He broke the record set by national runner Ang Chen Xiang who incidentally broke the national record in the same event. Wei Guan, a current National of University of Singapore student, trains at Singapore Sports School. He is vying for a spot at the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.

At the event, third-year Diploma in Business Studies student-athlete Reuben Rainer Lee Siong En raced his way to a gold-medal finish in the Male 200m event. Tyeisha Rene ission Khoo (Diploma in Business, Year 2) was the only student-athlete who won two medals. The versatile student-athlete brought home two silver medals – one for 100m hurdles where she attained a personal best and another for long jump. She also participated in javelin for the first time.

“During my run and jumps, I kept telling myself to feel the same way as I did in training and do not panic as the nerves can get overwhelming at times. With the support of my friends, family and Coach Remy, I was able to perform relatively well for my first competition of the year and first competition in a long time due to the pandemic.” Tyeisha is currently trying out a new event called the Heptathlon, which is a track and field event made up of seven events to be completed in two days. She aims to better the current youth record set for Heptathlon.

A total of 7 medals were clinched by current student-athletes at the event.
