Aquatic Athletes Make a Splash

21st World Aquatic Championships in Doha, Qatar, Thistle Port Dickson OWS Classic

Past and present student-athletes participated in the 21st edition of the World Aquatics Championships held in Qatar, Doha.

In the Open Water Men’s 10km event, current student-athlete Artyom Lukasevits from the Diploma in Business Studies showed great tenacity, battling the cold seas and choppy waves.

In Diving, Max Lee Shen Oon, a first-year student-athlete from the Diploma in Business programme participated in the 10m platform event. He garnered a score of 313.50 and finished 7th in Asia, a testament to his talent at such a young age.

In Artistic Swimming, alumna Debbie Soh, along with her duet partner Yvette Chong, dazzled spectators with their elegance and strength in both the Women’s Duet Technical and Duet Free events. In the Duet Technical event, they achieved a new personal best score of 206.6867 and placed 5th in Asia. For the Duet Free event, they scored 170.9959 and finished an impressive 4th in Asia.

In Water Polo, our women’s water polo team which consists of alumnae Koh Ting Ting and Celeste Wan as well as current student-athlete Charlene Tio from Secondary 5, competed in the World Aquatics Championships for the first time. It was an eye-opener for them as they competed against the best teams on the world stage.

These athletes chartered new depths, garnering invaluable experience and showcasing their skills at the World Championships. It sets the stage for an exciting 2025 as the 22nd edition of the World Aquatics Championships will be held in Singapore.

Thistle Port Dickson OWS Classic


Closer to home, our swimmers conquered the waves at the Thistle Port Dickson OWS Classic on 3 February 2024, clinching 5 podium finishes in the Open Category.

Har Mint and Ian Leong were especially satisfied with their performance. Har Mint touched the wall first during the 2km Women’s event for the 13-15 years old age group, while Ian placed 2nd in the Men’s 2km event. Both their timings placed them 2nd in the overall rankings.

Besides Har Mint, Casey Chua was the other gold medallist. She came in 1st in the Women’s 1km Open event. In the Men’s 1km event, Zachary Chew placed 2nd while Egan Chin finished 3rd.
