Fencers Strike At Local Meets

Minime Fencing Festival 2023 and Singapore Junior & Cadet Challenge 2023

It was a medal-rich month for fencers as they took on talented competitors in meets which featured competitors from countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia. The Minime Fencing Festival 2023 and Singapore Junior & Cadet Challenge 2023 gave fencers an opportunity to wield their swords and attack for medals. Team Sports School had a strong presence on the stage as they took home 26 medals.

In the Mimime Fencing Festival 2023, 7 student-athletes were amongst the top 8 winners. Among them was Secondary 1 student-athlete Soliano Cameron Alexander Tan who emerged as the champion in the Under-14 Boys’ Sabre category. 

Similarly, at the Singapore Junior & Cadet Challenge, fencers contributed to the medal tally, with 11 medals to their name. Cadet fencers in the upper secondary levels bagged 7 podium finishes. Secondary 3 fencer Benjamin Lee Shijie showed tremendous potential as he beat his worthy competitors to win a gold medal for Cadet Men’s Epee.

Fencers such as Juliet Heng Jie Min and Dan Wei Zuo who recently returned from the FIE Fencing World Championships, leveraged on their experience and performed well against local competitors to win gold medals in the junior categories. In the Junior Men’s Epee event, Sports School’s fencers swept a medal of every colour with Azfar Luqman Ong, Tim Shee Zhe Guang and Kieron Kok Zi Hua placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
