Never Too Early To Medal At The NSGs

National School Games: Football, Netball and Water Polo

Football

After a day's delay due to the inclement weather, our ‘C’ Division footballers finally kicked off their final match in the competition against Orchid Park Secondary School at the Jalan Besar Stadium on 30 August 2022. Their opposition held a good defensive line against our attacks and it took the last kick of the first half for the deadlock to be broken, courtesy of a well-executed freekick by man-of-the-match, captain Andy Reefqy Muhammad Hasyim (Secondary 2).

Our student-athletes continued their impressive string of attacks in the second half. Zippy winger Muhammad Haziq Mohammad Yazid (Secondary 2) crept past the backline to latch on to Andy's through ball before placing the ball past the goalkeeper for the second goal. Rauf Anaqi Khan (Secondary 2) then positioned himself well in front of the last defender to meet a cross with his head, making the score 3-0. Harith Danish Irwan (Secondary 2) then benefitted from a clean through pass from captain Andy again and he did not miss, supplying a smart finish, making the final score 4-0 to Sports School.

With that, our footballers were crowned Champions of the NSG (North Zone) 'C' Division Football competition!

Netball

Our determined ‘C’ Division netballers have put up a valiant display at the North Zone National School Games and were rewarded with a silver medal!

In the quarter-final rounds, they beat strong opponents like Christ Church Secondary School and North Vista Secondary School but lost out to Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS). They then went on to the semi-finals where they played a gritty match against CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School. The student-athletes gave it their all, matching the opponent’s attacks with staunch defending, and edged their opponents with a final score of 26-25.

The finals saw them matched once again with SCGS. Our student-athletes adjusted their strategies accordingly, having faced them in the quarter-finals, but they still fell a little short and walked away with a silver medal with a score of 15-26.

Water Polo

The combined water polo team from Singapore Sports School and Chung Cheng High Main scored the bronze medal in the ‘C’ Division Water Polo at National School Games. The underdogs swam against the tide of strong competitors from Hwa Chong Institution, St. Andrews Junior School, and Raffles Institution in the preliminary rounds. They proved their mettle as a team to be taken seriously in the competition by securing a place in the fight for 3rd position.

Our water polo boys displayed strength, speed, and teamwork against Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) but the more experienced team from HCI clinched the victory with a close score of 7-4.
