Marathon Swimmers Won Ticket To Asian Games

Singapore Swimming Association Open Water Swimming Major Games Qualifier


In their bid to secure a spot at the Asian Games, 21 swimmers tested their mettle against the current, heat and uncertainty of the open sea at the Singapore Swimming Association Open Water Swimming Major Games Qualifier on 2 April 2022.

Among them are current student-athletes Ritchie Oh Rui Zhi (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 3), Artyom Lukasevits (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 1), Luke Tan Yu Yang (Extended Diploma in Sport Management) and Candice Ang Ruo Han (Diploma in Business Studies, Year 2), as well as past student-athlete Chantal Liew Li-Shan.

After a gruelling 10km of swimming through the treacherous water, Ritchie sped past his opponents to emerge first with a timing of 1:59.26 hours, followed by Artyom in second place and Luke in third place. For the females, Chantal clinched first place with a timing of 2:06.39 hours, outperforming her timing at the Tokyo Olympics where she clocked 2hrs 8min 17.9sec. Meanwhile, Candice came in third place.

Their outstanding performance at the qualifier had earned the trio - Ritchie, Artyom and Chantal - a spot in the upcoming Asian Games that is scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China, in September.
