Determined Defending And Astute Attacking Key To Winning Netball Final

National School Games: Netball

The finals of the National School Games (NSG) North Zone Netball ‘B’ Division was held at the OCBC Arena on 29 April 2022. Our netball players played well throughout the competition and were up against Anderson Secondary School, who were also vying for the championship trophy.

The game started closely with the opposition matching point-for-point in the first quarter but a better defensive display in the second quarter started to turn the momentum towards our netball girls.

Goal Keeper Ianni Wong and Goal Defence B Divya Mathilda (both Secondary 4) put their defensive prowess on display by blocking and intercepting multiple shots and passes, which disrupted the opposition’s attacking momentum. With the possession switching hands, Goal Attack Janissa Tan Wei Ting (Secondary 5) made the most of their chances and added points on the scoreboard.

In the second half, Ianni and Divya continued their pivotal role in defence – paving the way for a more fluid attack. The introduction of Goal Shooter Angelina Haney Anurika Mckevin Lawrence (Secondary 3) further challenged the opposition’s defence. Her dominating presence unsettled the opposition’s backline and made the most of her shots, much to the delight of the travelling supporters.

When the final whistle was blown, the match ended 36-22 in our favour and our netball girls stood proud after being crowned netball champions in the North Zone.
