A Stable Step Toward Peace and Prosperity
Chinese New Year Celebrations
Our Chinese New Year celebration was a vibrant and meaningful occasion that brought our school community together in the true spirit of harmony. Anchored on the theme ‘Galloping into Peace’, the event deepened student-athletes’ understanding of Chinese traditions and values while highlighting their place within Singapore’s rich multicultural landscape.
The celebration opened with an energetic lion dance performance by our Track and Field Academy. The rhythmic drums and dynamic movements filled the hall with excitement, symbolising good fortune, courage and new beginnings for the year ahead. Adding depth to the festivities, our IBDP student-athletes presented a thoughtful skit depicting how Chinese New Year was celebrated during the Japanese occupation. Through their performance, the rest of the student-athletes were reminded of the resilience, unity and quiet strength of those who preserved tradition even during difficult times. It was a powerful reflection on gratitude and perseverance.
The learning continued with an interactive Kahoot quiz, where student-athletes tested their knowledge of customs, symbolism and festive practices. Laughter and friendly competition filled the air as participants gained a deeper appreciation of the meaning behind reunion dinners, red packets and festive greetings.
A special highlight was the grand entrance of the God of Fortune, who brought smiles and handed out sweets, spreading joy and blessings throughout the hall. The moment captured the warmth and generosity that define the season. Beyond the performances and activities, the celebration reinforced a larger message. In understanding one another’s traditions, we strengthen racial harmony and social cohesion. As one united community, we move forward together, galloping toward a future marked by peace, prosperity and shared purpose.
