Dear student-athletes, parents, and friends

Happy New Year!

With the COVID-19 pandemic largely under control in Singapore and most parts of the world, our student-athletes have been able to travel and compete towards the end of 2022. You will be able to read more about them in this and past issues of the eNews!. We look forward to even more competition opportunities in 2023!

The School’s revised policy to support overseas trips based on the student-athletes’ sports development level would enable our student-athletes to receive the most appropriate support for their sports development and growth. Each overseas trip would also be an opportunity for our student-athletes to be the best ambassadors for the School and for Singapore.

With the refreshed mission for Sports School, to nurture aspiring national athletes into learned champions with character: champions in sports, for sports, and in life, and a new vision to be Singapore’s premier school for aspiring national athletes, we will offer as default, through-train programmes into our International Baccalaureate Diploma and the two customised polytechnic programmes. This will ensure that our aspiring national athletes have more time and space to maximize their sports potential, fulfil their academic aspirations, and to develop into a whole person who is resilient, future-ready, with good character and leadership qualities.

In order to capitalise on the extended time for sports development via the through-train provision, our student-athletes will need to be even more self-directed in their learning. They will need to cultivate and demonstrate strong dispositions for self-directed learning, such as being able to complete their fortnightly Independent Learning Day tasks responsibly and with excellence, as an important demonstration of their suitability for the through-train programmes.

The depth and breadth of student development programmes planned for 2023 seeks to provide for greater coherence and consistency for the delivery of Character and Citizenship Education in the School. Do look out for the seven key messages to help our student-athletes consolidate and deepen their learning.

I look forward to seeing all our student-athletes, staff, parents, and partners, working closely towards our shared goals of nurturing every student-athlete into learned champion of character.

Together, we will soar!
