Sports School Catches the Olympic Spirit

Sports School Catches the Olympic Spirit

With the London 2012 Olympic Games less than three weeks away, it is little wonder that Singapore Sports School has already been hit by Olympic Fever. This was clear as more than 400 student-athletes and staff joined MediaCorp artistes Joanne Peh, Pierre Png, Desmond Tan and Suhaimi Yusof in sending their best wishes to the London-bound Team Singapore athletes during the MediaCorp Olympic Road Show at our School on 9 July 2012.

Singapore's Chef de Mission Jessie Phua, our guest of honour, encouraged student-athletes to believe in themselves, in their abilities and work hard to achieve their Olympic dreams.

As a tradition, our School organises send-off ceremonies for our student-athletes and alumni selected to compete in major multi-discipline Games. This year, hurdler Dipna Lim Prasad and swimmers Tao Li and Mylene Ong Chui Bin will be heading for London. It will be Tao Li's second Olympic Games, having competed in Beijing in 2008 and finishing 5th in the Women's 100m Butterfly final.

Mrs Phua presented to Mylene, on behalf of our School, a set of the School's 2012 mascot. Mylene, in appreciation of her coach Fang Hai Jiao, also presented him with a set of the mascot.

During the MediaCorp Olympic Road Show, three student-athletes paired with each of the MediaCorp artistes, to participate in a quiz, "All Things English and in relation to Singapore at the Olympic Games", hosted by Suhaimi Yusof in his character, "Jojo Joget" from "The Noose".

Following, our Student Councillors led the School in three cheers for Team Singapore.
