Two more Singapore Sports School alumni have joined their teammates to rank as world champions.

Sailors Rachel Lee Qing and Cecilia Low Rui Qi, on 5 August 2012, were crowned 420 World Champions at Neusiedler See, Austria. They are the first Asian pair of women to accomplish this feat.

Fellow alumnus Griselda Khng and her partner, Lee Shu Xian, finished third in the same competition in Austria Griselda was the 2006 Optimist World Champion, when the competition was held in Uruguay.

This is the second time that a pair of sailors from Singapore has won the 420 class world champions. Alumnus Sherman Cheng and his partner, Justin Liu, won the title at Haifa, Israel, in 2010.

Rachel, Cecilia and Sherman were gold medallists at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games.

Rachel's and Cecilia's achievement brings the total number of world champions from our School to seven. Together, our sailors have amassed seven world titles - Darren Choy Wong Loong having won the Byte CII twice in 2009 and 2010.

The 420 is not contested in the Olympic Games and Rachel and Cecilia say they plan to move to the skiff event in preparation of the Rio de Janeirio 2016 Olympic Games.
