Alumnus Divyashree d/o C Balakrishnan was presented with the Temasek Polytechnic Lee Kong Chian Award for All-Round Excellence, an award which recognises students who excel in both their studies and co-curricular activities.
It was not all smooth sailing for Divyashree, who was from the Track and Field Academy, when she entered Temasek Polytechnic via the Joint Polytechnic Special Admissions Exercise. She struggled to cope academically initially as she had not studied Physics at Sports School. However, through sheer effort and determination, Divyashree graduated with a Diploma in Chemical Engineering with an impressive Grade Point Average of 3.54.

Divyashree has fond memories of her years at Sports School as it helped shape her positive thinking and ability to manage any given situation. It has also taught her to plan her time very well, a life lesson that served her well as she continued her passion on the track.

She said her track and field training sharpened her in the classroom and prepared her to be ready for anything in life studying is like competitive training - she analyses strengths and weaknesses in everything and becomes a super competitive being, all out to win.

She competed in major competitions including the POL-ITE Track and Field Meet and the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic Track and Field Championships where she won a gold medal in the 400m, beating a national runner along the way.

Divyashree hopes to pursue her athletic career and will be working with Temasek Polytechnic's track and field coach to further her goals. In the immediate future, she is aiming to further her education at a local university.
