Some 450 Primary 6 pupils took part in sport selection trials during the annual Open House on 28 March 2015 with the hope of joining Singapore Sports School in the new school year.

They also learnt, should they be selected, that they will go through our athlete-friendly academic pathways to have a shot at earning their places at the Olympic Games and university just as sprinter Calvin Kang Li Loong and swimmer Tao Li did. They also learnt more about our unique academic system, how sport science will support their sport performance and comfortable boarding arrangements.

Besides engaging Primary 6 pupils, secondary school students were told that they are welcome to join the Sports School as mid-streamers so long as they meet the entrance criteria. National badminton players Ryan Ng Zin Rei, who transferred here in Secondary 3, and Yeo Jia Min, who came in after spending five months in Secondary 1 in another school, shared how they have each benefitted from the Sports School system.

For the group of select Primary 6 pupils and mid-stream Secondary School students who will join the Sports School in January 2016, Open House 2015 marked the first step of their journey to becoming sport champions.
