Incheon 2014 Asian Games

Bowler Jazreel Tan Shi Hua returned from Incheon as the most bemedalled Team Singapore athlete with 1 gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze medal. She won the gold medal in the Women’s Team of 5 event together with Singapore Sports School alumni Daphne Tan Shi Jing and New Hui Fen, as well as Cherie Tan, Joey Yeo and Shayna Ng. Jazreel also won silver in the Women’s Singles and Trios (with Cherie and Hui Fen), and the bronze medal in the All-Events.

Besides the bowlers, alumnus sailor Andrew Paul Chan was Singapore Sports School’s other gold medallist at the Games. He was part of the 5-men crew in the J80 Match Racing category.


Swimmer Tao Li was won a silver medal in the Women’s 50m Butterfly when she touched home in 26.28s, behind China’s Lu Ying (25.83s). She also won bronze in the Women’s 100m Butterfly event. She clocked 59.08s behind the Chinese pair of Chen Xinyi (56.61s) and Lu Ying (58.45s).

Sailor Cecilia Low Rui Qi partnered her sister Priscilla and won a silver medal in the Women’s 49er event while paddler Isabelle Li Siyun won a bronze medal in the Women’s Team event.

Shooting Academy Coach Nigel Lim Swee Hon, together with teammates Gai Bin and Poh Lip Meng, made history by becoming the first men to win a medal in the pistol event for Team Singapore in the Asiad, when they clinched a bronze in the Men’s 25m Standard Pistol Team event.  Nigel shot 563 out of 600 to finish 11th in the Men’s 25m Standard Pistol Individual event. His score, together with Gai Bin (567) and Poh Lip Meng (562), combined for a total score of 1,692 behind shooting powerhouses China (1,710) and South Korea (1,707).

A total of 35 Singapore Sports School alumni, three student-athletes and one staff competed at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games, which was held from 19 September to 4 October 2014.
