The  ‘Return of the Champions' parade saw the participation of 60 selected Olympians, sailing World Champions, medallists from Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and the Southeast Asian Games.
Sixty Singapore Sport School student-athletes and alumni who had turned in the most outstanding sports performances in the past 10 years were invited home to the School’s 10th Anniversary Awards Night on 22 January 2014.

It was momentous as Olympians, sailing world champions, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Southeast Asian Games medallists stood shoulder to shoulder on stage to be presented to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Ministry of Community, Culture and Youth Acting Minister Lawrence Wong, distinguished local and overseas guests, sports and education partners, parents, staff, alumni and student-athletes. As Sports School’s Director of Sports Irwin Seet called out each champion’s name and read his achievements, the younger student-athletes were clearly impressed and inspired.

Former staff, who made significant contributions to the success of the School, also joined in the celebrations, including Mrs Deborah Tan, the immediate past principal, and Dr Moo Swee Ngoh, the wife of the late Mr Moo Soon Chong, founding Principal of Sports School.

The evening’s top award – the Moo Soon Chong Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year for 2013, was presented to table tennis player Yee Herng Hwee and swimmer Lim Ching Hwang. Both medallists at the Nay Pyi Taw 2013 Sea Games received their awards from Mr Wong.

The Outstanding Sports Achievement Award was presented to nine alumni and also Herng Hwee, who won the Women’s Team gold medal at the recent Sea Games. Among the recipients was paddler Isabelle Li Siyun, who had won 1 gold and 1 silver at the Sea Games. She also graduated as top student of the Republic Polytechnic-Singapore Sports School Diploma in Sports and Leisure Management programme with a Grade Point Average of 3.98 out of 4.

Staff were also acknowledged. Six received the 10-year Long Service Awards and eight, the 5-year Long Service Award.
