Matthew James Lim Quan Rong received a morale booster in the form of two consecutive victories at the 2018 Asian Cadet Circuit – first in the Singapore leg from 25 to 26 August 2018, and the second in Bangkok from 31 August to 1 September. The Singapore Sports School student-athlete proved that he was the top Asian foilist in the Cadet division when he defeated Owen Pun of Hong Kong and Ethan Alexander Um of the United States in the Singapore and Bangkok legs respectively.

Secondary 4 student-athlete Matthew dominated the competition in Singapore, not allowing his opponents to score more than 10 points against him through to the Semi-Finals before ending his final bout of the tournament with a 15-12 scoreline.

Sports School Fencing Academy student-athletes also added a bronze medal to Singapore’s tally in each of the Asian Cadet Circuit legs.

Both tournaments in the Asian circuit served as good preparation for Matthew ahead of his participation in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games in October.
