Singapore Sports School – IB Candidate School for Diploma Programmme
Singapore Sports School’s application for candidacy for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) has been accepted by the International Baccalaureate.
Our School is now recognised as an IB candidate school for the Diploma Programme as of 1 September 2012. We will continue to work closely with the IB Asia-Pacific Regional Office to be authorised as an IB World School to begin our first year of teaching the Diploma Programme in January 2014.
International Baccalaureate, founded in 1968, is a recognised leader in the field of international education. It currently works with 3,463 schools in 143 countries to develop and offer four challenging programmes, including the Diploma Programme, to more than 1,044,000 students, aged 3 to 19 years old.
The Diploma Programme, for students aged 16 to 19 after their Secondary 4 education, is a demanding two-year curriculum leading to final examinations and a qualification that is welcomed by leading universities in Singapore and around the world. The Diploma Programme also fosters the knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable students to excel in university.
To facilitate academic progression of student-athletes from the secondary level to the Diploma Programme, the academic staff delivers an enriched curriculum for the Honours Programme at the secondary level.
The six-year IB through-train pathway will allow our student-athletes to match their sports training and development programmes more closely; and offer them another option in academic pacing and assessment. The longer development runway will also allow greater flexibility for them to pursue sporting and academic excellence concurrently. When they graduate, they would have attained a broad-based, rigorous and widely accepted pre-tertiary qualification.
