BallGirls At World Netball Championships

Singapore SportsSchoolNetballAcademy student-athletes are enjoying arena view of the Singapore 2011 World Netball Championships held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 3 July to 10 July 2011. They are volunteers as ballgirls, bench officials, flagbearers and sweepers. In whichever duty, they get to witness high-level competition from 16 countries, including

Singapore. At the Opening Ceremony on 3 July, the ballgirls and bench officials were presented to the spectators.

Elizabeth Hwang, who was originally assigned as a ballgirl, was named the second bench official after the organising committee reviewed and decided that the event required more officials.

Elizabeth was chosen for her active participation during the Netball Super League season.

"So far, I've watched AustraliaNew Zealand and England play. Competition is at a higher level and the experience is inspirational," she said.

Elizabeth appreciates the exposure she is getting through working on the bench in an international event working with people from other countries, she gets to observe and learn different styles of benching, exchange pointers and different techniques that will help her improve her own game.

Singapore is the only country in Asia to have hosted the World Netball Championships - and doing it twice the first in 1983.
