Asian Games Gold Medallists Return To Alma Mater Singapore Sports School
SingaporeSportsSchool welcomed 102 new student-athletes in the 2011 school year which started, 4 January (Tuesday).
To inspire and motivate them as well as existing student-athletes in our Secondary 2, 3, 4, 5 and through-train classes, we have invited our School Alumni members who won Gold medals at the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, in November 2010, to our first School Assembly - Swimmer Tao Li and Sailors Sherman Cheng Feng Yuan, Cecilia Low Rui Qi and Rachel Lee Qing.
Collectively, Team Singapore won 4 Gold medals in Guangzhou of which Singapore Sports School Alumni members contributed 3.
Tao Li won the Gold medal in the Women's 50m Butterfly in a personal best time of 26.10sec to rewrite the Singapore National Record. This is her second Asian Games Gold medal the first was won in the same event at the 2006 Doha Games. In Guangzhou, Tao Li also won a Silver medal in the Women's 100m Butterfly, bettering her Bronze finishing in Doha.
Sherman, too, won his second Asian Games Gold medal. He and his partner had won the Double Handed Dinghy 420 Class Gold medal at the 2006 Doha Games, and the pair stamped their class in Guangzhou.
