An Engaging Learning Process

One can never stop learning. Even for educators, they are constantly looking at new ways to teach a subject and new ideas to get their point across. Events like the Educational Research Association of Singapore Conference 2011 allow fellow educators to congregate, share ideas and widen their knowledge scope. This was certainly the case for Singapore Sports School teachers Felicia New, Ng Sho Ching and Quah Soo Hoe, who were selected to present at the conference.

Presenting their work on "Using contemporary teaching and learning strategies in teaching the Mole Concept for active and independent learning" at the conference, held from 8-9 September 2011, Felicia, Sho Ching and Mrs Quah also attended other sharing sessions by their fellow educators. During those sessions, they noted the paradigm shift from didactic teaching to self-directed learning.

As a result of their experience at the conference, the three teachers will look to design more self-directed learning packages and implement it for next year's students so as to better engage students in their learning process.
