Girls’ Golden Sweep

2018 Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championship

Shin Zong Yi set the ball rolling for Singapore when she struck the first gold medal of the 19th Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championship on 2 October 2018. Singapore Sports School’s Secondary 3 student-athlete made an incredible comeback in the Girls Singles, shooting to the top of the leaderboard from 10th place in Game 5 of the six-game event. Composing herself for the final game, she bowled a perfect 300 score to pip compatriot Arianne Tay to the Singles crown with a total of 1,292 pinfalls, a commendable feat for the 15-year-old in an Under 18 event.

Sports School student-athletes went on to win nine more medals for Singapore – 4 golds, 2 silvers and 3 bronzes – at the tournament in Taichung, Chinese Taipei, from 2 to 8 October 2018. Our Bowling Academy student-athletes contributed significantly, featuring on 10 out of Team Singapore’s 13 podium finishes.

The girls were on fire, sweeping all gold medals on offer at the competition in the Doubles, Team, Masters and All Events. Secondary 4’s Quek Lu Yi was Singapore’s best performer, winning 3 titles – Team, Masters and All Events – and a bronze medal in the Doubles. For their outstanding achievements at the meet, they were named Overall Team Champion in the Girls category. The Boys finished Overall Team Runner-Up.
